The flag of the Canton of Valais features a square design divided vertically into white and red stripes, separated by a black line. On the white stripe, four red stars are arranged vertically, while the red stripe displays four white stars in a similar pattern. At the junction of the stripes, five stars, each half red and half white, are positioned. The red and white colors are derived from the traditional colors associated with the Bishop of Sion, who held significant influence in Valais until recent times.
